We were in New York during the peak of Storm Jonas. One of the largest Snow Storms to hit New York City in 60 years and the largest Blizzard in 100 years, according to snow fall rates. They had declared a state emergency, with more than 13,000 flights cancelled in relation to the storm, including our flight out of there to Hawaii. The day before the storm hit, I was lucky enough to fit in a quick shoot with Alexandra Wolf, an extremely talented fashion photographer from Europe, now living in New York. Alexandra is a fashion and lifestyle photographer, who is the lady behind Arielle Charnas, known as Something Navy's incredible Outfit and Street Style pictures around NYC. It is not easy to find words to explain the feeling from my hands after my gloves came off for that brief moment. Locals I was with laughed at my reaction to the sharp pain of that blizzard frost, yet how could I, a proud local from the Sunshine State really pretend like nothing was happening. It probably didn't help my feet were not covered either. There was no way I wasn't wearing my new Gucci shoes, aka my treasured Gold Foil Marmont Pumps. Unbeknown to me, these shoes were just about to make it big throughout Fashion Week and I am so pleased I wore them when I did, It felt great to be ahead of the trend that is Alessandro Michele, Gucci's Creative Director. This time while in New York we stayed Downtown at The Ludlow Hotel, sister hotel to The Bowery. It was perfect for what we needed and a short taxi ride to all our favourite eats. Thankfully we didn't mind being snowed in as there was an amazing Italian restaurant across the road which we happily slipped down to, and I mean literally slipped through the slushy snow. Yes, to answer your first question, there was Dirty French downstairs too, (a popular restaurant that was at the bottom of our hotel) however, after eating breakfast there every morning it was only natural to want something new. On that note, let me know if you would like my top 10 restaurant recommendations in NYC, potential blog post to come. Bye for now. Love Britt xx Thanks to Flight Centre, Tatjana Catic and I were able to visit Castaway Island, Fiji. We were absolutely blown away by the amazing culture, value and authenticity of the island. A magical place it was, where staff act like family and the waves really are the busiest thing in sight. Castaway Island is managed by Hawaii-based Outrigger Group, one of the fastest-growing, privately-held hospitality companies in the Asia Pacific, Oceania and Indian Ocean regions. Having had visited the Canoe Club property in Honolulu, I could instantly notice the similarities. We were lucky enough to be staying there at the same time as staff from head office in Hawaii, which was great as we were able to participate in some of the island highlights with them. Tribal dances, an island hike, a sunset cruise, a day trip to Cloud 9 and snorkelling around surrounding private islands were all amongst some of the activities in which we were able to experience. Tatjana and I were so thrilled to be taken to Cloud 9 by a short boat trip for an amazing Day Trip. It was such a great experience. Cocktails on arrival, wood fried pizzas and endless spaces to relax, we knew we had found heaven on earth. After a few hours on the floating platform, more boats started to arrive and we decided it was time to head back to what felt like our very own private island. We were pleased to find out that around the other side of the island there were local goats living peacefully! We only saw a brief glimpse of them however loved the idea of it, how tropical and untouched it seemed. Above: Wearing Camilla With Love Pants and Plumeria Swimwear Top
We were very sad to leave such an amazing place, the island sang us our very own farewell song which made us shed a tear. Out of all the places I have been in my life, this is one of my favourites. I will definitely be back to visit.. Much Love, Britt xx I had the pleasure of being featured in Bio Paks current Artist Print Series, artwork from Australian and New Zealand artists printed on their 8oz, 12oz and 16oz single wall and double wall BioCups. A great opportunity for me, as my design has now been printed on a quarter of a million cups worldwide! My Print, "Melon Crush" is a hand painted watercolour design. It embodies all things summer, from fresh juicy fruits, to bright neon hues and healthy living. It’s carefree brush strokes and watercolour blends symbolise the watermelons natural place in our environment, earth and soil. The artworks mirror effect represent my eye for symmetry, pattern and style, making this fruity piece unique, eye catching and memorable. Photos with the cups are trending on Instagram under the hash tag #BioCupPrintSeries - and that is exactly where I found Cafe Dezire, a local coffee shop that is a proud supporter and stockist of Bio Cup. Of course, I had to go and check it out. I was pleasantly surprised with the food and level of service that they had. It was such a cool experience getting to drink out of my own cup design!
Stay tuned for more Bio Pak updates. Britt xxx I flew down to Sydney for a few design meetings and while I was there, attended the MTV Summer Party. I had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Westin, I would be lying if I said it wasn't the highlight of my trip. I dare say, half the fun of attending these events is getting ready. I love all things hair and make up, so of course was delighted to do my own. Pictured: Tatjana and I, Photo Courtesy of MTV Australia.
