I absolutely loved my visit to Cairns a few months ago. I visited a close friend of mine, Jacqui (who I mentioned in one of my last posts) She is lucky enough to live on the esplanade, which made afternoon walks that much easier.
We decided to go to Fitzroy Island, which is only a short boat ride away from the Cairns Ferry Terminal. It was very beautiful, however we were unable to swim due to the “Stinger season”. Travelers Tip: Wear shoes on the beach! The coral is certainly no sand.

The next day we drove to Palm Cove, which is about a half an hour drive from Cairns. It was a nice change of scenery and I found the palms very cool. These trees are located at the very end of the strip of shops along the road. Swimming is not great, unless you are a fan of staying within the nets. If I was in the area, I would definitely come back here.
